Deaccessions and Quilts Specifically Purchased for Sale

As a means to control the size of the permanent collection and stay within our mission it has been necessary to periodically reevaluate and reassess recent as well as past accessions. Often quilts are purchased for specific reasons; i.e. to illustrate a point in my writings or to use as example in particular exhibitions. Purchasing quilts from sources developed over the many years of being in business, offers great opportunities. While they may not suit the collections needs, some are often too great to turn down. In this section are both quilts being de accessed from the collection as well as those bought specifically to resell. The same criteria exist when purchasing quilts for either the permanent collection or for sale; condition, condition, condition and they must appeal to my sense of design, use of color, and artistic expression. Part of being a collector is helping others form collections of their own. Buying from qualified, knowledgeable and experienced individuals can help prevent and avoid making serious and expensive mistakes.
