Along with crib quilts, doll quilts have the same desirability and fascination for the collector. Perhaps even more scarce than crib quilts, they hold an appeal all their own. Often they are a child’s first effort in learning to sew. They can be crude, primitive, naive, and wonderfully imaginative. Their charm and rarity also excuses some of the condition problems that exist. They were toys that were played with, and the fact that they have survived makes them very special. Some have even survived in excellent condition which may reflect the particular traits of the owner or some other circumstance that allowed it to survive in unused condition.
