In the world of the collector, diminutive objects have always been held in the highest esteem. The crib quilt is no exception. They are highly prized, not just because of their size but, also, understandably, their rarity. Their intended function is no doubt responsible for the fact that very few survived. If the quilt celebrated a birth and was perhaps a special effort, then it may not have been used. For whatever reason, those that survive are of particular interest to collectors, historians, and --especially-- decorators. Their size makes them ideal as decorative accessories. The finest examples, and those most coveted, are the crib quilts that look like scaled-down full-size quilts. All of the elements we look for in full-size quilts are also present in the best of the crib quilts.
